Alginite
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000156
A maceral, a microscopic organic component of coal and oil shale, derived from the preserved remains of algae. It is part of the liptinite group of macerals, which are known for their high hydrogen content and excellent potential for generating liquid hydrocarbons when heated. Under a microscope, alginite appears as distinct, well-defined bodies, often retaining the original shape of the algal colonies or individual cells from which it formed.
