Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000348
A device installed in quiet electric and hybrid vehicles to generate an audible sound at low speeds. This sound is designed to alert pedestrians, cyclists, and visually impaired individuals to the vehicle's presence, as electric motors are nearly silent. Regulations, such as those in the EU and US, mandate that AVAS activate when the vehicle is traveling below a certain speed, typically 20 km/h or 30 km/h.
