Basher
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-006783
A worker in a forge or smithy responsible for heavy, repetitive hammering tasks, often under the direction of a master smith. The basher, also known as a striker, wields a sledgehammer to strike hot metal placed on an anvil by the smith, providing the brute force for forging operations. This role contrasts with the smith, who uses lighter hammers for skilled shaping and directs the timing and placement of the basher's blows.
