Brightener

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000774

An organic or inorganic chemical additive included in an electroplating bath to produce a shiny, reflective deposit on the plated object. These agents modify the crystal growth of the depositing metal, refining the grain structure and leveling microscopic surface imperfections to increase specular reflectivity. Brighteners are classified as carriers or levelers, and their concentration in the plating solution must be maintained within a narrow range, often measured in parts per million.
