CAN
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000932
A vehicle bus standard, the Controller Area Network, that allows microcontrollers and devices to communicate with each other within a vehicle without a host computer. It is a message-based protocol where nodes broadcast messages onto a two-wire network, and each node determines if the message is relevant to its function. The CAN standard is defined by ISO 11898, which specifies data rates up to 1 Mbit/s for classical CAN and higher rates for CAN FD.
