Cap sheet

The final, exposed layer in a multi-ply built-up or modified bitumen roofing system. It is designed to protect the underlying waterproofing layers from ultraviolet radiation, physical damage, and weathering. Cap sheets are manufactured with a mineral granule surface, a foil facing, or a factory-applied coating to provide this protection and meet fire resistance classifications.
