Mop-and-flop

A roofing application method in which insulation boards, felt plies, or cap sheets are first laid upside down beside their final position, coated with bitumen or adhesive, and then turned over and pressed onto the substrate. The coated face lands directly on the deck or the layer below. The name comes from the two actions: mopping the bitumen on, then flopping the piece over into place.
