Chopper
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001108
An electronic circuit that converts a fixed direct current (DC) input into a variable DC output voltage by rapidly switching the source on and off. This static power converter functions as a DC-to-DC step-up or step-down transformer, regulating the average output voltage by adjusting the switch's duty cycle. Chopper circuits are integral to switched-mode power supplies, DC motor speed controllers, and battery charging systems for electric vehicles.
