Compandor

An electronic device that performs companding, which involves compressing a signal's dynamic range before transmission and expanding it back to its original range upon reception. This device enhances the signal-to-noise ratio in communication channels by making quiet signals louder and loud signals quieter during transmission. Compandors are commonly found in audio processing, radio communication, and telephone systems.
