Data Circuit-terminating Equipment, which is a device that provides the physical connection to a data transmission medium and converts data signals between the data terminal equipment (DTE) and the communication line. Modems are a common example of DCE, translating digital signals into analog signals for telephone lines. It manages the physical layer of the communication link.
