Compressor

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001288

An electronic circuit that reduces the dynamic range of an audio signal by decreasing the gain for signals above a certain threshold. It makes quiet sounds louder and loud sounds quieter, resulting in a more uniform volume level. The amount of gain reduction is typically expressed as a ratio, such as 2:1 or 4:1.
