Correlator
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001359
An optical or electronic system that measures the degree of similarity between two signals or images as a function of the displacement of one relative to the other. In optics, a joint transform correlator or a VanderLugt correlator uses Fourier optics to perform pattern recognition by identifying a known object within a larger scene. The output is a bright spot of light, the correlation peak, at the location where the target pattern is found.
