Airy pattern
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-000151
The diffraction pattern produced when light from a point source passes through a circular aperture. It consists of a bright central disk, the Airy disk, surrounded by concentric, progressively fainter bright rings separated by dark rings. This pattern demonstrates the wave nature of light and sets a limit on the resolving power of optical instruments.
