To remove grease, oil, dirt, and other contaminants from the surface of a manufactured part or component, a process also known as degreasing. This cleaning is a preparatory step before subsequent operations such as painting, plating, welding, or adhesive bonding. Solvents, alkaline solutions, or vapor degreasing methods are employed, depending on the material and the type of soil to be removed.
