Diascopic

Relating to the illumination of a transparent or translucent object by transmitting light through it from below or behind. This method is commonly used in microscopy to view thin specimens, where light passes through the sample and then into the objective lens. Diascopic illumination is contrasted with episcopic illumination, which uses reflected light.
