Flatfield

A calibration image used in digital imaging to correct for non-uniformities in detector response and illumination across the sensor. It is typically acquired by imaging a uniformly illuminated, featureless target. Applying a flatfield correction removes artifacts such as vignetting and dust spots from scientific images.
