A representation of an object formed by the focusing of light, sound, or other forms of energy by a lens, mirror, or other system. A real image is formed where light rays actually converge and can be projected onto a surface, such as a screen or a digital sensor. A virtual image is formed where light rays only appear to diverge from, cannot be projected, and is what an observer sees when looking into a simple magnifying glass or a flat mirror.
