The theoretical force amplification factor of a mechanism, known as Ideal Mechanical Advantage (IMA), calculated assuming no energy is lost to friction, wear, or material deformation. It is the ratio of the output force to the input force in a perfect, frictionless system. This ratio can also be expressed as the distance the input effort moves divided by the distance the output load moves, which is determined solely by the geometry of the mechanism.
