Doubler

An additional layer of material, typically a metal plate or sheet, welded or riveted onto a structural component to reinforce it or distribute stress over a larger area. Doublers are used to strengthen areas subject to high loads, fatigue, or to repair damaged sections. They are common in shipbuilding, aircraft manufacturing, and heavy machinery.
