Electric potential
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-001997
The quantity of potential energy per unit of electric charge at a specific location within an electric field. It represents the work done to move a positive test charge from an infinitely distant reference point, or another defined zero-potential point, to that location without causing acceleration. Measured in volts (V), the electric potential difference between two points is what drives the flow of current in a circuit.
