Fission rocket
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002304
A theoretical or experimental rocket propulsion system that uses nuclear fission to heat a propellant to extremely high temperatures, which is then expelled through a nozzle to generate thrust. This method offers significantly higher specific impulse compared to chemical rockets, enabling faster and more efficient space travel. Designs include solid-core, liquid-core, and gas-core reactors.
