Solid rocket
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005462
A type of rocket motor that uses a propellant in a solid, pre-mixed form, containing both fuel and oxidizer. Once ignited, the propellant grain burns smoothly along its exposed internal surface, generating hot gas that produces thrust as it exits a nozzle. Unlike liquid-propellant rockets, a solid rocket cannot be throttled or shut down after ignition, and its thrust profile is determined by the grain's geometry.
