A rotating machine part with cut teeth that mesh with another toothed part to transmit torque and motion, or to change speed or direction. Gears are fundamental components in mechanical systems, found in everything from simple hand tools to complex industrial machinery. They are characterized by their number of teeth, pitch, and material, often made from steel or plastic.
