An abbreviation for Hardware Description Language, a specialized computer language used to describe the structure and behavior of electronic circuits, particularly digital logic circuits. Engineers use HDL to design, simulate, and synthesize complex systems for implementation on devices like FPGAs or in the creation of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). The two most prevalent HDLs are Verilog and VHDL (VHSIC Hardware Description Language).
