Hot shift

A method of engaging a power take-off (PTO) unit on a vehicle's transmission while the engine is running and the vehicle is stationary. This allows for continuous operation of auxiliary equipment without disengaging the main clutch. Hot shifts are common in vocational trucks like garbage compactors or concrete mixers.
