An enhanced 3G mobile communication protocol designed to increase data transfer speeds for downlink connections from a base station to a mobile device. High-Speed Downlink Packet Access is part of the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family and achieves higher throughput by using adaptive modulation and coding, hybrid automatic repeat requests, and fast cell-site scheduling. This protocol provides theoretical peak data rates exceeding 14 Mbit/s, forming a bridge between 3G UMTS and 4G LTE technologies.
