Imposing table
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-002987
A heavy, flat-surfaced table, traditionally made with a cast-iron or marble top, used in letterpress printing. On this surface, a compositor arranges and locks metal type and printing blocks into a frame called a chase. The perfectly flat and stable surface is required for the type to be level, which is a condition known as being 'on its feet'.
