Instrumental width
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003031
The broadening of a spectral line or feature caused by the limitations of the measuring instrument itself, rather than by the intrinsic properties of the sample. This effect arises from factors such as the finite slit width of a spectrometer or the detector's resolution. It sets a lower limit on the smallest spectral detail that can be resolved.
