Infrared radiation, a form of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than visible light but shorter than microwaves. In aviation, infrared technology is used for night vision systems, thermal imaging cameras, and heat-seeking missiles. Aircraft components also emit infrared radiation, which can be detected for maintenance diagnostics or by sensors.
