Thermopile

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005958

A device composed of several thermocouples connected in series, used to measure temperature or to convert thermal energy into electrical energy. When one set of junctions is exposed to heat and the other to a cold reference, a voltage proportional to the temperature difference is generated. Thermopiles are used in infrared sensors, heat flux meters, and thermoelectric generators.
