Lantern

A type of tool post for a metal lathe that allows for adjusting the height of the cutting tool. It consists of a slotted post, a concave ring, and a convex rocker that supports the toolholder, enabling the operator to set the cutter on the workpiece's centerline by tilting the rocker. Also known as a rocker tool post, this design is found on older or smaller bench lathes.
