An abbreviation for left-hand, used to specify the orientation or direction of operation for hardware, tools, and threaded fasteners. For doors, it indicates that the hinges are on the left side when the door opens toward you. For a threaded part, a left-hand thread tightens with a counter-clockwise rotation, the opposite of the more common right-hand thread.
