Limit switch

An electromechanical device that detects the presence or absence of an object, or the passing of a moving part, by physical contact. It consists of an actuator, an operating head, and an electrical switch. Limit switches are commonly used in industrial control systems to initiate or stop operations, such as controlling the travel limits of machinery.
