A chamber or enlarged space excavated underground in a mine to serve a specific purpose, such as storage or housing machinery. A lodge can be a simple recess for holding tools and supplies near the working face or a larger room for pumps, electrical switchgear, or a refuge station. Unlike a working stope, a lodge is a permanent or semi-permanent installation designed for operational support rather than ore extraction.
