A unit of measurement indicating the abrasion resistance of a textile fabric, determined by a standardized testing method. It quantifies the number of rubs a fabric can withstand before showing signs of wear, such as thread breakage or pilling. A Martindale rating of 20,000 rubs is generally considered suitable for general domestic upholstery.
