Mash tun

A large vessel used in brewing and distilling to convert starches in grains into fermentable sugars. Grains are mixed with hot water in this vessel, creating a mash that allows enzymes to break down complex carbohydrates. The mash tun typically includes a false bottom or filter plate to separate the liquid wort from the spent grains.
