A register in a computer's central processing unit that stores the data being transferred to and from the main memory. The Memory Buffer Register, also known as the memory data register (MDR), holds the contents of a memory location that has been read or is about to be written. This register acts as a temporary holding area between the processor and the memory bus, matching the speed differences between them.
