MMU
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003713
A hardware component within a processor that translates virtual memory addresses into physical memory addresses. The Memory Management Unit (MMU) enforces memory protection by preventing one process from accessing memory allocated to another, which is a requirement for stable multitasking operating systems. This protection isolates faults, so a failure in a non-supervisory task does not halt the entire industrial control system.
