Mushroom head
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-003825
A broad, low, domed head on a rivet, bolt, or screw, shaped like the cap of a mushroom, that gives a large bearing area under the head and a smooth, snag-free top. It is used on thin sheet and soft materials where a small head would pull through. Unlike a countersunk head, which sits level with the surface, a mushroom head stands slightly proud of it.
