Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004067

A gear ratio in a vehicle's transmission where the output shaft rotates faster than the input shaft from the engine. This reduces engine speed for a given road speed, leading to lower fuel consumption and reduced engine wear during highway cruising. Modern automatic transmissions often incorporate multiple overdrive gears.
