Pedestal

A rigid stand that supports a machine at a convenient working height and holds it steady, as under a pedestal grinder or drill press. It is usually a cast iron or fabricated steel column or cabinet bolted to the floor. In bearing terminology a pedestal is also the low housing that carries a shaft bearing, known as a pillow block.
