Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004293

A measurement of force representing one-trillionth (10⁻¹²) of a newton. This SI unit is used in nanotechnology and biophysics to describe the minute forces involved in molecular interactions, such as the binding strength between proteins or the force required to stretch a DNA molecule. Instruments like atomic force microscopes and optical tweezers operate with sensitivity in the piconewton range.
