Programmable Read-Only Memory: A type of non-volatile memory chip that can be programmed once after manufacturing. Data is written into the device by blowing internal fuses or creating connections, making the stored information permanent. Once programmed, the data cannot be erased or altered, distinguishing it from EPROM or EEPROM.
