ROM

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004922

A type of non-volatile semiconductor memory, Read-Only Memory, from which data can be read but not easily modified or written to after manufacturing. Because the data is permanently encoded on the chip, it is retained even when power is removed, making it suitable for storing firmware or bootloader software in industrial controllers and embedded systems. Mask ROM is programmed during fabrication, while programmable versions (PROM) and erasable versions (EPROM, EEPROM) offer more flexibility.
