Propagation mode
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-004529
A specific pattern of electromagnetic field distribution that can exist and travel within a waveguide or optical fiber. Each mode has a distinct velocity and attenuation characteristic, influencing signal integrity and transmission distance. Single-mode fibers support only one propagation mode, while multimode fibers support several.
