Quicken
Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-007190
To add a chemical accelerator to a plaster or mortar mix to reduce its setting time, causing it to harden faster. This is done to speed up the construction process, especially in cold weather which naturally slows the chemical reaction of hydration, or when a rapid repair is needed. Common accelerators for Portland cement-based mixes include calcium chloride, calcium nitrate, and certain formates, though their use can affect the final strength and durability of the material.
