The interval between the moment a driver releases the brake control and the point at which braking force ceases to be applied. This measurement is particularly monitored in vehicles with air brake systems, where lag can be a factor. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 specifies maximum release times for air-braked trucks, tractors, and buses to prevent brake drag and overheating.
