Sodium Adsorption Ratio, a measure used to assess the suitability of irrigation water or soil for agricultural use, indicating the relative proportion of sodium ions to calcium and magnesium ions. A high SAR value suggests a risk of sodium accumulation in the soil, which can degrade soil structure and reduce water infiltration. It is calculated as the concentration of sodium divided by the square root of half the sum of calcium and magnesium concentrations, all expressed in milliequivalents per liter.
