Sherman necktie

A railroad rail that was heated over a fire of burning ties and then bent or twisted, often around a tree, so it could not be reused. Union troops made them while destroying track in the American Civil War, and the name is tied to General William Tecumseh Sherman's campaigns, especially the 1864 march through Georgia.
