Ship lift

Term · Industrial and trades · MLC-T-IND-005220

A stationary platform used for lifting vessels out of the water for dry-docking and lowering them back in after maintenance or construction. The system consists of a structural platform that is raised and lowered by a series of synchronized winches or hydraulic hoists, allowing ships to be moved onto an adjacent land-level transfer area. Unlike a floating dry dock, a ship lift's capacity is determined by the combined lifting power of its hoists and the dimensions of its platform.
